X Square Robot wants to move beyond short household demonstrations and test robots in hundreds of real homes during 2026. Speaking to Reuters, co-founder Yang Qian said the company’s longest household deployment has lasted one month and that gradual commercialization is planned for 2027.

This does not mean a finished general-purpose home humanoid is about to enter mass retail. The development is still significant because X Square already has programs operating in real apartments. Its official materials confirm a partnership with 58.com for a cleaning service in Shenzhen and Beijing, as well as the X Family Member Program, which can place a robot with a family for up to one month.

A home is much harder than a trade-show stage

A factory or warehouse can be highly structured: objects have known locations, floors are predictable and jobs repeat. A home is different. People move objects, clothes and toys appear on the floor, lighting changes, doors may be left partially open and every apartment has a different layout.

That makes a multi-week deployment in a real household fundamentally different from a short demonstration engineered by a robotics team. The robot must deal not only with one prepared task but with a stream of unpredictable situations and with people who do not behave like trained laboratory operators.

X Square already offers a human-plus-robot service

In March 2026, X Square announced a partnership with home-services platform 58.com. The model does not claim that a robot can replace a cleaner entirely. A customer books a household cleaning service and receives a team consisting of a professional cleaner and an X Square robot. The person handles work requiring more judgement, while the robot tackles structured and repetitive tasks such as wiping tables, collecting small debris and tidying surfaces.

This is an important qualification when assessing the maturity of the technology. X Square is not proving today that a robot can autonomously run an entire household. There is not enough public information to answer that precisely. X Square has not disclosed the price of a future household product, its final hardware configuration, a subscription model or the minimum autonomy level required before commercialization. It is also unclear whether the first offering will be a robot sale, a supervised service, a Robotics-as-a-Service model or an extension of partnerships with household-service companies.

“Commercialization in 2027” should therefore be read as management’s development target rather than a guarantee that European consumers will be able to buy a universal household robot next year.

WALL-B and the problem of the robot’s “brain”

X Square is developing its own embodied-AI models in parallel. In April it introduced WALL-B and a World Unified Model architecture intended to combine perception, language, action and prediction of physical-world changes.
