Agricultural robots: models, applications and costs

Explore agricultural robots for seeding, weeding, orchards, greenhouses and livestock. Compare tasks, European availability and deployment costs.

Agricultural robots can seed, weed, apply treatments, move crops and automate selected livestock tasks. Some replace a tractor journey with a driver; others automate one operation within a larger workflow. Start with the problem on your farm: expensive weed control, missing labour hours, crop transport or repetitive barn work. Then check crop compatibility, regional availability and the support needed to keep the system working.

Choosing and deploying a farm robot

What do you want to automate?

Task Examples to explore The question that matters
Seeding and weeding FarmDroid FD20, Naïo OZ and ORIO Can it cover the crop within the treatment window?
Implement work AgXeed AgBot Do the implements, fields and transport arrangements fit?
Lasers and spot spraying Robot One, LaserWeeder G2, ARA620 Are you buying a vehicle, an implement or a complete system?
Orchards and plantations AgBot W3, Mini GUSS, Thorvald Does it fit the rows and the specific treatment?
Harvesting and transport Burro, Tevel, Four Growers, Mycionics Does it pick the crop or help people move it?
Livestock Lely, DeLaval, GEA What changes in the building, workflow and alarm response?
Drones and monitoring DJI, XAG Do you need mapping, transport, spreading or crop treatment?

These examples explain applications. They are not a ranking or a statement that every product can be delivered in every European country. Check the supporting sources and regional status when comparing a model. The Clarkson’s Farm robot is an entry point

The AgXeed AgBot featured in the programme makes field autonomy tangible: plan a repeatable operation and carry out implement work without a driving cab. Deploying it still requires field preparation, compatible equipment and a way to handle interruptions. A television appearance cannot establish whole-season economics. Read: What an AgXeed AgBot can actually do.

Ask three questions before comparing prices

Does it solve the actual problem? Weed control, labour shortages and moving produce may require completely different investments. Establish the cost and quality of your current process first.

Can it handle the season? Total farm area is a weak selection tool on its own. Repeated passes, scattered fields, weather, supervision and treatment timing determine useful capacity.

Who supports the installation? Confirm the model, delivery date, commissioning, subscriptions and response time. A dealer covering one country does not establish availability across the EU or the UK.

Local availability is part of the product

For Central and Eastern European readers, the Polish market provides useful examples of existing channels. Agrihandler lists AgXeed, Naïo and Pixel Farming Robotics; FarmDroid lists Farmsystems for Poland. Each installation still needs a model-specific offer. Our English coverage takes a European perspective, with country-level availability wherever it can be verified. Look for the quoted currency, configuration and date when comparing prices. An unavailable price is missing information, not a zero-cost product.

How to read the coverage

When reading a product card, check the task, system type, commercial status, sales region and verification date. Manufacturer specifications, independent field evidence and our own hands-on observations are different categories of evidence. A useful comparison keeps those distinctions visible.

Start with the workflow that consumes your time, then compare only systems that can address it. For a worked explanation, read FarmDroid and recorded seed positions.

Choose the operation you want to change

Start with one repeatable job. If vegetable weeding absorbs the most labour, compare mechanical tools, lasers and spot spraying. For daily livestock work, open the barn robotics guide. In orchards, assess crop protection, transport and picking separately: the orchard guide explains why their output measures differ.

Shortlist machines that fit the production conditions. State the required quality and deadline. The robot should take over a measurable part of the process. When its intended job remains vague, even detailed quotations are difficult to compare meaningfully.

Move from interest to a demonstration

Prepare a farm brief covering field sizes, travel distances, crop layout and soil, or the plan of a livestock building. Add the work calendar and present costs. This lets the supplier identify configuration limits before the demonstration. Use the availability and service guide to establish a country-specific supply route.

During the trial, count preparation, productive work, stoppages and completion. Record every human intervention. Judge the agricultural outcome as well as autonomous driving time. Weeding needs an assessment of remaining weeds and crop condition; transport needs delivered loads and the team's active time.

Include a more difficult season

Test the quotation against lower utilisation. Reduce available working days, add transport and include a fallback service. Do not automatically treat every hour released for the owner as cash available to repay the purchase. An organisational benefit may be valuable while remaining different from a reduction in expenditure.

The calculator below compares your assumptions. It is neither a product price list nor a payback promise. Profiles explicitly identify missing comparable prices when a supplier quotes each installation individually.
