The key point is that Sonic is not simply a stronger version of Saros 20. It represents a different mopping architecture and a different sensor stack. Vacuuming specifications are close on paper, so the decision should be driven by floor type, clutter and how much you actually care about mopping performance.
Who should choose Saros 20?
Saros 20 makes the strongest case for buyers who put mapping and small-object perception near the top of the list. Roborock positions StarSight 2.0 as an advanced vision system for mapping, positioning and obstacle recognition. Who should pay extra for Saros 20 Sonic?
The reason to buy Sonic is VibraRise 5.0. Instead of two spinning pads, the system uses a high-frequency vibrating mop that can extend toward edges. Roborock lists up to 14 N of mop pressure for the system; that is a manufacturer figure, not an independent RoboMorrow measurement. The architecture is aimed at users who mop hard floors frequently and prefer a scrubbing-style motion from one larger mop assembly.
Sonic uses Reactive AI 3.0 and RetractSense. Roborock describes RGB vision, structured light and the side-facing VertiBeam system for object and edge perception. That does not prove Sonic will always avoid more objects than StarSight 2.0 under every condition. A fair ranking would require the same controlled obstacle course, so here we treat them as two different perception strategies, not a simple better/worse ladder.
