Short answer: at prices checked on 2 September 2026, Roborock Saros 20 is the more natural choice if obstacle perception and dual spinning-mop cleaning are your priorities. Saros 20 Sonic is currently only about €25 more and mainly earns that premium with the VibraRise 5.0 vibrating, extendable mop. The key point is that Sonic is not simply a stronger version of Saros 20. It represents a different mopping architecture and a different sensor stack. Vacuuming specifications are close on paper, so the decision should be driven by floor type, clutter and how much you actually care about mopping performance.
Who should choose Saros 20?
Saros 20 makes the strongest case for buyers who put mapping and small-object perception near the top of the list. Roborock positions StarSight 2.0 as an advanced vision system for mapping, positioning and obstacle recognition. In a home with cables, toys, pet bowls and frequently moving objects, that capability can matter more than a different mop mechanism.
The second reason is the familiar dual spinning-pad format. Two pads rotate, FlexiArm can extend cleaning toward edges, and the robot can adjust the cleaning assembly to the surface. Saros 20 also uses AdaptiLift 3.0 to deal with thresholds and carpet transitions. Roborock advertises up to roughly 8.8 cm across a specific two-step threshold geometry; that should not be read as a guarantee that the robot will climb every vertical 8.8 cm obstacle.
If your home has plenty of carpet, both models share the adaptive chassis and high claimed suction. Saros 20 is especially appealing when you want conventional spinning-pad mopping combined with Roborock's StarSight perception stack. The floor plan and clutter pattern are more useful decision variables than the headline Pa number.
Who should pay extra for Saros 20 Sonic?
The reason to buy Sonic is VibraRise 5.0. Instead of two spinning pads, the system uses a high-frequency vibrating mop that can extend toward edges. Roborock lists up to 14 N of mop pressure for the system; that is a manufacturer figure, not an independent RoboMorrow measurement. The architecture is aimed at users who mop hard floors frequently and prefer a scrubbing-style motion from one larger mop assembly.
Sonic uses Reactive AI 3.0 and RetractSense. Roborock describes RGB vision, structured light and the side-facing VertiBeam system for object and edge perception. That does not prove Sonic will always avoid more objects than StarSight 2.0 under every condition. A fair ranking would require the same controlled obstacle course, so here we treat them as two different perception strategies, not a simple better/worse ladder.
The current price gap makes the choice unusually simple
On 2 September 2026, Roborock's official Polish store listed Saros 20 at a level equivalent to about €800 and Saros 20 Sonic at about €850 in our rounded Approximate price. The crossed-out regular-price level was roughly €1,400. These are dated price snapshots, not permanent market prices.
With only about €25 between them in the rounded price context, buying purely on price makes little sense. The better question is: do you want dual spinning pads plus StarSight 2.0, or VibraRise 5.0 plus Reactive AI 3.0? If Sonic later returns to a much higher price, the value equation will change. What is shared between them?
Both robots advertise 36,000 Pa HyperForce suction, anti-tangle brush systems, a low body, AdaptiLift 3.0, SmartPlan 3.0 and the RockDock station. In both cases Roborock automates a large part of routine maintenance, including mop servicing, dust handling and drying. Hot-water dock functions are designed to reduce manual mop cleaning.
Because the core vacuum and dock proposition overlaps so heavily, a useful comparison should not repeat the same feature list twice. The decision compresses to three things: mop architecture, perception stack and current price. If you mainly vacuum, the difference can be smaller than the product names suggest. If you mop every day, the mop system becomes the first filter.
