RoboMorrow methodology: this guide is based on official Segway Navimow specifications and the current European offer verified on 17 August 2026. RoboMorrow has not yet tested these models side by side in RoboMorrow Labs. Slope limits, obstacle-recognition counts, positioning accuracy and coverage figures are manufacturer claims rather than independent test results. For a real garden, layout, tree canopy, narrow passages, edges, hard surfaces and local Network RTK coverage matter more than a single headline specification.

Navimow i210 LiDAR Pro and i208 LiDAR look closely related, but they solve different combinations of problems. The i208 LiDAR targets roughly 800 m², uses LiDAR + Vision and is positioned as an antenna-free solution when mapping under trees matters more than extreme traction. The i210 LiDAR Pro raises the label to 1,000 m², adds Network RTK and AWD, and Segway states a higher slope limit. The Pro premium therefore makes most sense when the challenge is terrain as well as positioning.

This is not a hands-on review. RoboMorrow has not tested the two mowers side by side. We compare architecture, official data and implications for real garden scenarios, while treating manufacturer performance numbers as claims rather than independent results.

Prices and promotions change quickly. Area per charge is not the same metric as maximum supported lawn size.

The biggest difference: i208 removes the antenna, Pro adds redundancy

i208 LiDAR is built around LiDAR + Vision. Segway emphasizes no boundary wire, no local antenna and fast mapping. This is attractive when you want simple setup and have poor sky view. i210 Pro keeps LiDAR but adds Network RTK, giving it satellite corrections, geometry and vision as complementary inputs.

On paper, Pro should therefore have more options when moving between very different zones. That does not mean i208 becomes a poor choice on an open lawn. If local geometry is good and terrain is moderate, the simpler system may be entirely sufficient.

Trees and shade — does Pro always win?

Both models use LiDAR, so both target environments where satellite visibility alone is not ideal. If the only problem is mature trees over a flat 600–700 m² lawn, i208 LiDAR can deliver the core LiDAR advantage without paying for AWD and an additional positioning layer.

Pro becomes more compelling when the property changes character: open front, shaded rear, narrow connector and slope. NRTK can be useful in the open, LiDAR beneath canopy and vision for local obstacle context. Redundancy rather than LiDAR itself is the catalogue advantage.

Slopes and uneven ground — a clearer distinction

Segway states up to 45% slope for i2 LiDAR and 55% for i2 LiDAR Pro. i210 Pro has AWD and Xero-Turn, while standard i208 uses off-road wheels and electronic stability control. If the lawn contains short steep sections, wet grass or uneven transitions, the extra money has a more tangible purpose.

Measure the real slope rather than relying on the impression that the garden is “steep”. Many residential slopes are 15–25%, inside both specifications. The hardest moment can also be turning across a slope rather than driving straight up it, making traction and path planning more important than the headline percentage.

800 vs 1,000 m² — smaller than the model names suggest

The nominal difference is only 200 m². On 650 m² of actual grass, both have useful headroom. At 900–950 m², i210 is a safer fit, but not only because of the 1,000 m² label. Multiple zones and long transfers add non-cutting time, so scheduling headroom matters.

Interestingly, Segway’s own comparison material lists more mowing area per charge for i208 LiDAR than for i210 Pro: roughly 265 versus 195 m². That should not be read as “i208 has the better battery”. Pro powers AWD and a different system architecture. What matters is whether the complete lawn schedule finishes within an acceptable window.

Mapping and zone editing

Both families are marketed as wire-free, automatically mapped products. Segway highlights realistic map editing for i2 LiDAR and GeoSketch/full-colour map tools for Pro. Determining which interface is genuinely easier requires using the same app and the same garden, so RoboMorrow does not declare a winner here.

Ask a dealer to demonstrate manual boundary correction, exclusion zones, inter-zone transitions and narrow-corridor changes — not just the first automatic scan. These are infrequent tasks, but poor editing can make the first week unnecessarily frustrating.

Obstacle avoidance

Segway claims more than 200 obstacle categories for i2 LiDAR, with 1 cm precision language used in Marketing. Pro also combines VisionFence and LiDAR. We do not treat category counts as safety scores. Thin cords, flat objects, dark toys and small animals can behave differently from demo objects.

In a family garden, the useful metric is not “AI included”, but how often someone has to walk outside and remove something or recover the mower. That is a real-world test metric, not a specification.

Noise, weather and routine maintenance

Segway lists around 59 dB(A) for the i2 family and IP66 protection. Both types require sensor cleaning, especially the camera and LiDAR window. Pro also brings a more involved drive system, so long-term ownership should include local availability of wheels, blades and service parts.

4G and theft/security functions may include an initial free period followed by a small subscription. It is not a large cost relative to the mower, but it belongs in a multi-year ownership calculation.

Price: when does the Pro premium make sense?

At regular European pricing, i208 LiDAR and i210 Pro are separated by roughly €400, although promotions can shrink the gap. The premium is rational if you can use at least two advantages: AWD, higher slope capability, triple-fusion positioning or the larger lawn-size class.

For a flat 600 m² lawn under trees, i208 LiDAR looks more rational. For an 850–1,000 m² property with canopy, a slope and a long narrow transition, i210 Pro is much easier to justify.

Edges and cut quality — sensors do not tell the whole story

LiDAR and RTK determine position, but the final lawn appearance also depends on cutting-disc geometry, wheel path and whether the mower can safely overlap the border. A vertical flower-bed wall may leave a trimming strip for both machines; a flush paved edge can allow more overlap. RoboMorrow therefore does not award either model a “better edges” point without a side-by-side test.

Installation and the first week

i208 LiDAR has a simple appeal: no perimeter wire and no local antenna. Pro also avoids the classic local RTK antenna when Network RTK is available, but adds more layers. In both cases, good dock placement, a complete first scan and careful map correction matter. Do not judge the mower from one polished dealer demonstration.

Run several cycles in different conditions: after rain, bright sun, evening light and after moving garden furniture. Log errors and interventions. If Pro genuinely removes problems where i208 struggles, the premium becomes measurable. If both run cleanly, the simpler mower wins economically.

Service, parts and multi-year ownership

Both models consume blades and require sensor cleaning. Pro has a more complex drive architecture, so long-term ownership should include the price and availability of wheels, battery, modules and out-of-warranty labour. Confirm the warranty route with the actual seller rather than assuming a global product page equals a local SLA.

Paid 4G after an included period is a small expense, but it illustrates the broader TCO rule: compare several seasons, not just today’s promotion. Garage, blades, service, connectivity and human intervention time all belong in the ownership calculation.

i208 vs i210 Pro — six decision questions

  1. Do you have more than roughly 800 m² of actual grass?
  2. Are there meaningful sections above about 30–35% slope?
  3. Do you have traction problems as well as canopy?
  4. Are several very different zones connected by narrow passages?
  5. Is reducing interventions worth several hundred euros to you?
  6. Does Network RTK have good coverage at your address?

If the first five answers are mostly “no”, i208 LiDAR is the natural starting point. If several are “yes”, Pro has a clearer technical justification.

Who should buy i208 LiDAR?

  • up to roughly 800 m² of actual lawn;
  • trees or buildings with moderate terrain;
  • priority on antenna-free setup;
  • no strong need for AWD;
  • budget matters more than maximum sensor redundancy.

Who should buy i210 LiDAR Pro?

  • roughly 800–1,000 m² of grass;
  • trees, narrow transitions and uneven terrain together;
  • slopes where AWD has a real job;
  • a preference for LiDAR + NRTK + Vision together;
  • a garden difficult enough that fewer interventions can justify the premium.

What would RoboMorrow choose without a hands-on test?

For a flat garden with canopy, i208 LiDAR is our more rational starting point. For a property combining positioning problems and traction problems, i210 Pro is the stronger pilot candidate. This is not a cleaning-quality-style score or a mowing-quality verdict; it is an architectural buying conclusion from verified specifications.

That is also why i210 LiDAR Pro is one of the first mowers RoboMorrow wants to request as a loan unit. Early Google Search data already shows model-specific demand, and a controlled test beneath trees, on slopes and through narrow passages would add far more value than another catalogue comparison.

FAQ: i208 LiDAR or i210 LiDAR Pro?

Does i210 Pro cut better simply because it costs more?

RoboMorrow cannot claim that without a side-by-side test. Pro has a more advanced positioning stack and AWD, but cutting quality also depends on blade condition, grass height, route planning and physical edge design. The premium is mainly about difficult localization and terrain.

Can i208 LiDAR work beneath trees without RTK?

That is one of the main reasons the standard LiDAR series exists. Segway specifies LiDAR + Vision and no local antenna. It is not a guarantee of flawless performance under every canopy, so a real garden should still be tested during a dealer demo or return window.

Is Pro worth buying for only 500–600 m²?

Only when the smaller lawn is unusually difficult: steep sections, slippery ground, poor sky view and multiple complex zones. On a simple 500 m² property, i208 LiDAR or i205 AWD can offer a much better ratio between cost and problems actually solved.

What matters more than the 800 vs 1,000 m² label?

Zone count, travel time, dock placement, slope and intervention frequency. Nominal lawn size is only a starting point. A mower labelled for 1,000 m² that repeatedly fails in one corridor may be less useful than a smaller machine that fits the geometry correctly.
