Robot Vacuum Battery: Wear, Charging Fault or Settings?
Shorter robot-vacuum runtime does not by itself prove that the battery is worn out. The same battery may cover less floor after suction, route density or the number of passes changes. Before ordering a part, separate three possibilities: the robot is not charging correctly, the task now consumes more energy, or comparable tasks no longer achieve their previous runtime.
Use the symptom to choose the next check
| Observation | First check | What it does not yet establish |
|---|---|---|
| No charging confirmation | Power and correct placement on the dock | A failed battery pack |
| Longer tasks after settings changed | Mode, passes and selected area | Sudden cell deterioration |
| More frequent charging returns | Whether the route and task are comparable | A need to replace the entire robot |
| A battery or temperature warning | The exact model’s documented error | One universal fix across brands |
If there is visible damage, unusual heating or deformation, stop charging and operation trials and follow the manufacturer’s support instructions. This guide helps assess symptoms and prepare a service request. It does not explain opening a pack, bypassing protection or repairing electronics.
Establish whether charging is the problem
Check that the station has power and that the robot confirms charging as described in its own manual. Reaching the station is not the same as starting to charge. Roborock documentation identifies dirty contacts and unsuitable battery temperature among possible charging problems. Consult the codes and permitted actions for your exact model rather than a similar-looking device.
If the robot cannot reach the station, start with our docking and return troubleshooting guide. A new battery cannot remove an obstacle on the approach or correct a localisation problem. Dust emptying is also a separate process: a robot may charge normally while its station has an airflow problem.
Compare tasks, not just percentages
Dreame’s Matrix10 Pro support guidance explains that cleaning settings affect runtime. This is a useful diagnostic distinction, not permission to transfer specific runtimes or mechanical procedures to every model. Record what changed before the issue appeared: a new rug, another room, higher intensity, a different mopping routine or repeated passes.
The percentage in the app is the device’s estimate, not a laboratory capacity measurement. A different percentage drop cannot establish cell wear when the conditions differ. Comparing a maximum advertised runtime with the most demanding mode in a furnished home is particularly unhelpful.
Record two comparable ordinary sessions
Use only normal tasks permitted by the manual; do not deliberately run the battery flat. Select the same accessible area and settings. Record the starting level, task duration, app-reported area, any charging return and the finishing level. Distinguish travel and cleaning from pad washing or waiting.
| Record | Session A | Session B |
|---|---|---|
| Date, model and app version | Complete at home | Complete at home |
| Rooms and mode | Record settings | Keep the same or describe the change |
| Starting and finishing level | Record readings | Record readings |
| Duration, area and interruptions | Record results | Record results |
| Messages and manual interventions | Record observations | Record observations |
If the results differ, do not diagnose the battery from a single number. Note environmental changes and send the record to support. The purpose is to make the problem reproducible, not to issue a home battery-health certificate.
Replace the battery or the whole robot?
Request an exact-model quotation covering the part, labour, transport, diagnostics and service conditions. Assess the rest of the device too. A low battery price does not solve a separate drive or station failure, but a minor charging fault does not automatically justify a new robot.
We do not recommend an anonymous replacement pack on voltage and advertised mAh alone. Compatibility depends on the precise part and device requirements. If the manufacturer specifies service-only replacement, use that route. Confirm coverage and price for the purchasing market rather than assuming every model has identical warranty terms.
Prepare a useful support request
Include the model, symptom, first occurrence, messages and the two session records. Explain whether charging starts correctly and whether the problem followed a settings change. Send serial numbers and purchase documents privately to the authorised support channel rather than posting them in a public comment.
Use the robot maintenance budget guide to assess costs and the home acceptance protocol to examine the complete system. Base replacement on an identified cause and a complete quotation rather than the device’s age alone.
