Window-cleaning robots on small panes: measure the usable glass

RoboMorrow editorial illustration: Window-cleaning robots on small panes: measure the usable glass

Choose a window-cleaning robot for each usable glass section, not the overall window width. Raised glazing bars may require separate handling of every section. A large window can therefore contain panes that are too small for the selected model.

Identify the physical division

Record whether the dividing bar sits on the cleaning surface or between the glass layers. A raised bar is an obstacle in the robot’s route; a visual division inside a sealed glass unit does not divide the surface in the same way. Measure seals, handles and other protrusions separately. Do not assume the robot can cross a bar.

A large window with small sections

Consider our geometric example: a 120 × 120 cm rectangle divided into three columns and two rows. After accounting for the bars, each section is smaller than 40 × 60 cm. Use measured clearances, not division of the outer frame dimensions, when checking the manual. A section beside a handle may be narrower than the rest.

Dreame lists a 30 × 40 cm minimum for C1/C1 Station in its product table. That is a requirement for a particular family, not a universal minimum for window robots. Confirm how the manual defines orientation and measurement. Do not transfer the figure to W3 OMNI or HOBOT.

Count the human operations

If both sides of six sections each require a separate start, you may need twelve placements. This illustrates the operation count; it does not establish that every surface is approved. Add cloth washing or replacement and corrections beside bars. With many small sections, transfers may demand more attention than the cleaning pass itself.

What to send the seller

Prepare one picture of the entire window and a close-up of the smallest section with measurements. Ask the seller to confirm the exact model, glass compatibility, minimum section and securing method. “Works on frameless windows” does not answer whether it fits a small pane between raised bars.

A valid measurement outcome is that the robot does not fit. In that case, consider it only for larger compatible glazing. This is a more useful purchase decision than choosing by overall window size and later trying to bypass the device’s limits.
