Short answer: choose RockMow Z120 LiDAR if you want an AWD platform for roughly 2,000 m² and prefer LiDAR mapping without an external RTK reference station. Z150 is the better fit for a genuinely large lawn — the 5,000 m² class, a 10 Ah battery and longer operation — but it uses full-band RTK + VSLAM with an external reference station. Both offer AWD, a 24 cm six-blade cutting system and Roborock's claimed 80% slope and 8 cm obstacle capability.

The biggest choice: LiDAR without a station or RTK with more area capacity?

Z120 LiDAR is the more distinctive technology proposition. Roborock describes its Sentisphere LiDAR system as 360° 3D LiDAR plus VSLAM. The user benefit is not the LiDAR label by itself; it is that you do not need to install an external RTK reference station. That can matter on properties where antenna placement is awkward or when the owner simply wants fewer installation components.

Z150 uses full-band RTK + VSLAM and ships with an RTK station. In good satellite conditions, that architecture is a logical fit for very large open areas. The decision should not become ideological: LiDAR is not automatically superior to RTK, and RTK is not automatically more accurate in every garden. Tree cover, walls, sky visibility, passages and total area determine which architecture is easier to live with.

Z120 LiDAR: more attractive for complex lawns up to roughly 2,000 m²

If your property is around 1,200–1,800 m² with trees, buildings or awkward RTK placement, Z120 LiDAR has a clear proposition. You retain AWD and the same heavy-duty mechanical class as Z150 while removing the external reference antenna from the setup.

Roborock combines LiDAR with VSLAM and environment-perception functions. On current Z1 LiDAR material, some more advanced AI, obstacle-reaction and automated mapping features are marked as future or OTA-dependent. That caveat matters: do not assume every advertised software capability has the same maturity or availability on every firmware version today.

The 6 Ah battery and roughly 110 minutes of claimed mowing do not place Z120 in the same throughput class as Z150, but they do not need to for a 2,000 m² target. The smaller battery also comes with a shorter listed charging time of about 50 minutes, allowing the mower to work in repeated cycles.

Z150: the model for a lawn that is genuinely large

Z150 makes sense when the core problem is not installation but throughput across a very large property. The 5,000 m² variant uses a 10 Ah battery and has about 200 minutes of listed mowing time. Cutting width remains 24 cm, so the area advantage mainly comes from energy and longer operation rather than a dramatically wider deck.

At 3,000–5,000 m², every extra charging stop starts to matter. RTK also becomes easier to justify on a large open plot where satellite visibility is good and a fixed reference station is not a major installation burden. If the lawn is large but heavily covered by tall trees, check the site conditions rather than assuming the 5,000 m² rating solves every positioning problem.

AWD, 80% slope and 8 cm obstacles: shared mechanical capability

Both models are much more terrain-focused than the RockNeo Q family. Roborock advertises all-wheel drive, slopes up to 80% (38.7°) and obstacle capability up to 8 cm. Those are unusually high boundary figures and need context. They are manufacturer claims, not a guarantee of operation on every wet 80% slope or a promise that a mower will climb every vertical 8 cm step.

Real gardens add surface grip, cross-slope travel, edge geometry and grass condition. If one extreme section of your property determines the purchase, do not buy solely from the percentage in a table. Look for a demonstration on comparable terrain or a practical return policy.

The cutting system is close — do not look for the winner there

Z120 and Z150 both use a 24 cm six-blade system and a 20–70 mm cutting-height range. Z150's larger lawn capacity therefore does not come from a wider deck. It simply has more energy and is configured for longer operating cycles.

If your lawn is 1,500 m², buying Z150 “for headroom” does not necessarily improve cut quality. It may reduce total cycle time and charging. On a 4,000 m² property, those exact differences become critical. Match the variant to actual grass area rather than assuming the biggest model is automatically the best.

Price: Z120 is cheaper, but both sit in the premium class

A rounded difference of roughly €750 is substantial, but it should be viewed against the 2,000 versus 5,000 m² design class and 6 versus 10 Ah battery. If your lawn is 1,800 m², Z150 is likely overkill. If it is 4,200 m², Z120 is simply the wrong capacity class.

Warranty and OTA-dependent features

Roborock Garden's official warranty policy lists three years for the main Z120 LiDAR and Z150 unit and two years for the battery. On an expensive outdoor platform, that is a more material ownership fact than another generic AI label.

At the same time, current Z1/Z1 LiDAR pages label some advanced functions as planned or OTA-dependent. RoboMorrow therefore separates physical product capabilities available now from software features that may mature after launch. If one specific function is essential to your property, verify its current firmware status before purchase.

Verdict by use case

  • Up to about 2,000 m², many trees/buildings, want to avoid an RTK station: Z120 LiDAR.
  • 3,000–5,000 m², large open property: Z150.
  • Steep and rough terrain: both are candidates thanks to AWD; do not treat 80% as a universal guarantee.
  • Simplest installation: Z120 LiDAR has the advantage because it does not require an external RTK station.
  • Highest throughput and fewer charging interruptions: Z150 with 10 Ah and about 200 minutes claimed runtime.
