Agile ONE is a humanoid platform from Agile Robots. Its specification should be separated from statements about all robots and installations across the group. This matters after the opening of the Fürstenfeldbruck factory: the company says most machines currently being shipped use wheels.

Manipulation before appearance

Arms and hands determine which tasks are worth considering. Sensors can help detect contact, but mechanical complexity does not guarantee reliable grasping. Control, object properties and conditions still matter.

Establish whether the robot will handle a known set of parts or changing objects. The answer affects perception, training data and failure-handling requirements.

Advertised walking speed is not workstation productivity. Positioning, grasp quality and repetitions without intervention can be more important in many applications.

A trial should therefore include normal variation rather than only a carefully arranged demonstration. Define which changes in object pose and presentation the system is expected to tolerate.

What the factory establishes

In-house production is a meaningful stage in a supplier’s development. It does not justify treating every robot leaving the factory as the bipedal version shown as Agile ONE. The mobile base affects the application.

It is also worth identifying the boundary between a laboratory demonstration and a maintained application. Different operating conditions can require additional engineering even when the underlying hardware is unchanged.
