ECOVACS GOAT O500 Panorama
ECOVACS GOAT O500 Panorama is a compact robot mower for lawns up to 500 m² that removes two common installation steps: perimeter wire and a local RTK reference station. It uses ECOVACS LELS™ Panorama, combining LiDAR with a dual-vision system. The manufacturer says the mower can recognise boundaries, build a map automatically and then let the user edit mowing zones in the app.
Navigation without local RTK hardware
The important part is not LiDAR alone but sensor fusion between geometry and vision. ECOVACS describes LELS Panorama as providing centimetre-level positioning and continuous navigation in normal and more complex gardens. This is a different approach from mowers that primarily replay a satellite-positioned virtual boundary: O500 can interpret the visible and geometric edge of the lawn.
ECOVACS advertises automatic mapping in roughly five minutes and no need for a local reference beacon. That is attractive in compact urban gardens where installing RTK hardware can feel disproportionate to the lawn. The trade-off is that automatic boundary recognition still benefits from clear edges. Grass fading into meadow, an ambiguous flower bed or visually messy borders remain harder cases than a kerb, wall or obvious paving edge.
500 m², narrow passages and edge mowing
The declared coverage is 500 m². ECOVACS says the mower can pass through corridors around 0.7 m wide, while explicitly noting that the figure comes from laboratory testing and real results vary with grass, terrain and layout. Cutting height is adjustable from 30 to 80 mm, while TruEdge is intended to reduce the uncut strip near boundaries. Multi-zone management is supported.
AIVI 3D obstacle avoidance combines AI cameras and 3D-ToF sensing. ECOVACS claims recognition of more than 200 obstacle categories, including hedgehogs. RoboMorrow treats this as a manufacturer claim until we can test small-object detection under repeatable lighting and lawn conditions.
Important slope discrepancy in official material
The current Polish ECOVACS page states a maximum slope of 45% (24°), while the UK store page states 50% (24°). Those percentage values are not mathematically equivalent to the same angle, so we treat this as an inconsistency in regional manufacturer material. For a Polish buying decision, the safer reference is 45% unless ECOVACS clarifies the difference.
The mower is rated IPX6. The UK store also lists 57 dB and 120 m²/h mowing efficiency. These figures help with specification comparisons but should not be treated as measured real-world productivity in a garden with obstacles and multiple zones.
Who is it for?
O500 is most compelling for a small wire-free garden where the owner does not want a local RTK antenna, has reasonably readable lawn edges and may need narrow connectors between lawn sections. A steep, rough or poorly defined site may be better served by an AWD design or an NRTK-based mower.
